When I proposed to Michele, my now wife, I was so proud that I bought her dream ring from Tiffany’s. On the day I was going to propose to her, I felt so excited, prepared, and anxious. However, when I got dressed for the night day, I came to realize I had a “HUGE” problem. The beautiful ring came in a 2″ x 2″ x 2″ gorgeous black velvet box. However, like any proposal, the proposal was meant to be a surprise and there was no way I would be able to hide that box in my jeans or jacket pocket without her noticing. I tried on a bunch of different clothes to try to accommodate the box; baggier pants, a blazer, tight socks that I could squeeze it in. But nothing seemed right. So I made a very stressful decision that night. I decided to put the most expensive piece of jewelry I had ever purchased directly in my pants pocket, without anything holding it!
All night long, I was preoccupied with the thought of the ring being unprotected in my jeans. Would it fall out through some secret hole? When I pulled it out, would I fumble it and drop it into the sea? Or even worse, would there be some crumbs stuck to it? Trying to keep my cool, I excused myself to go to the bathroom about a hundred times that night to look at it and make sure it wasn’t scratched. All said and done, the night was a success and Michele said yes. But I couldn’t help but think about all the unnecessary stress that box caused me.
In 2010, my wife and I founded a marriage proposal planning company. We immediately began talking about what product we could sell once the company took off. I reflected back on that nerve-wracking proposal day and knew what we had to do. Being an engineer that graduated from MIT, I started inventing a thin engagement ring box in 2011. I wanted to do it right so I spent a long time designing the perfect ring box that was light and inconspicuous but also durable. Michele and I met with mechanical engineers and designers, tooling companies, went through various prototypes, hired the manufactures, and last but not least, filed a patent.
The end solution is a gorgeous product that is only 0.5″ thick and made of durable ABS material. It contains an array of gears to rotate the ring 90° the moment you open it so that it creates an amazing effect. It also has a latch to keep the box securely closed and protected. After nearly 4 years in the making, we are proud and elated to offer our clients the perfect solution to hiding your engagement ring the day they propose. There is no other engagement ring box on the market that is not only thin, but lightweight AND durable.
